The A 36 was designed over a 12 month period which makes this one of the more researched and well developed medium size yacht projects we have been involved with. This is important to note because the popularity of the 11 meter size means there are more than a few offerings on the market and only those that really focus on long term value and versatility will survive the short term upheavals of handicap rules and yachting fashion to attain classic status.
The brief for this design revolves around a studied balance between out and out racing performance and the practical enjoyment of the yacht for less strenuous pursuits. In this regard we have integrated all the performance necessities (high performance composite foils, close sheeting angles and ergonomic cockpit layout to name a few) with a high volume comfortable interior.
Interior
The interior is centered around a fore and aft galley opposing a generous settee with a centerline bolster seat. Sleeping is in two large double cabins which afford generous headroom and floor space for the occupants. A traditional navigation station to starboard serves as the boat's command center and mini - floating office. Finally, instead of trying to cram in two heads this design utilizes one large one that really functions well. It even has an enclosed shower.
On deck the A 36 is pure function. The comfortable cockpit features generous seating with comfortable backrests which in no way impede the ability of the crew to sail the boat hard when desired. This is backed up by what is becoming a Jutson trademark - the swept spreader runnerless carbon rig. Our experience in this area is now producing some of the most easily tuned performance packages which are also capable of surviving the toughest Hobart. With its lack of runners and the small headsail this rig further simplifies the sailing of the boat which is a benefit to both casual cruising as well as racing.
Construction
Construction follows the Austral history of high quality hand laid yachts using advanced knitted fabrics and foam cores. Special attention is placed in high load areas such as the keel where a high speed grounding case is incorporated and around hatch cut outs where special reinforcement is used prevent blow outs. This is a boat made to last.
