Alerion-Express 45 Yachts

The exciting new Alerion-Express 45 is currently under development by Pearson’s talented staff of designer’s and engineers. The hull master pattern will be robotically machined by Pearson Precision Tooling beginning in May of this year with the debut of hull #1 in late 2009.

The design brief for the stunning new 45 was clearly defined right from the outset.

Maintain strong family resemblance and performance heritage of the 33 and 38.
Maintain the philosophy of single Handed Ease and Alerion Sailing with low force level of operation for which the marque is renowned.
Provide the purchaser with endless sailing enjoyment and stress free ownership.

The profile shows the natural development from the 33 and 38 with an elegant sheer, low coachroof, elliptical port lights (to be opening in this model). The bow and stern profiles use the same geometry and family of curves that are derived from the very DNA of Alerion-Express

The cockpit (or funpit) is the heart and sole of the 45. Maintaining the format of her smaller sisters with comfortable settees port and starboard and command center aft. However the 45 has room for a fixed pedestal table with a built in foot brace and winch island that accommodate powerful Lewmar 54 self tailing electric winches. The Alerion Express 45 sets a new low in the force level required to sail a 45 footer.

Aft the helmsperson can feel every nuance of the pulse of this thoroughbred through the pedestal mounted composite steering wheel. Control of all the sailing functions are close at hand. Push button winch controls, manual hydraulic vang and traveler adjustments, auto pilot or auxiliary, mainsheet or furler. The 45 takes Alerion Sailing to the next logical exciting plateau.

Removable Helm Coaming Bolster

The uncluttered deck layout afforded by under deck control line leads has allowed the design team to add such innovative features as a below decks stowing anchor chute and anchor windlass which allows an uninterrupted sweep of the sheer while underway. While aft is the main traveler with below deck hydraulic control and the “piece de résistance”: The water access system (see rendering). This option enables the transom to be converted to a marvelous boarding area either from swimming or from a dinghy. The convertibility aspect of the water access feature, as with the anchor chute forward, allows the clean lines of the hull to be unspoiled while underway or taking pride of place at any anchorage.

Below decks the Alerion Express 45’s interior is second to none. The hand-finished paneled bulkheads and doors are masterpieces of modern day production yacht construction with more than an acknowledging nod to the days of Vanderbilt and Sopwith. The 45 interior can be bespoke (as the British like to say) that is finished in the owner’s choice of American Cherry, exotic Teak or a combination of wood furniture and white painted bulkheads.

The main cabin as can be seen in the illustration by Steve Davis features wonderfully comfortable settee berths forward with the starboard seat section pulling out as required to form a comfortable double should the occasion arise when extra berths are needed. The spacious lockers outboard of the settees are accessed via beautifully crafted, solid wood, raised panel doors.

In these days of electronic navigation a formal chart table has been replaced by a desk large enough for a lap top computer. Stowage for an assortment of necessities and sundry items is provided in the desk along with room for the laptop. Outboard of the desk is the back-lit main electrical panel mounted in a locker face. There is has plenty of space forward of the panel to add the additional electronics that are desired.

The galley to starboard provides all the necessities for onboard meal preparation. Hot and cold pressure water, deep stainless steel sink, vacuum panel insulated refrigerated ice box and two burner LPG stove with an oven. As with everything in life this arrangement may not suit all owners and their crews. Alerion-Express is always prepared to work with individual clients to customize the 45 to suit their needs.

Aft of the galley is the entry door to a second sleeping cabin that provides privacy for a second couple not always found on other yachts of this class. This light airy cabin can be a haven for those wanting to grab a quick nap while the fun continues either on deck or below.

The spacious head compartment with ready access to the companionway and interior accommodations features a sizeable circular shower area and electric head. Light and ventilation are provided by an overhead Lewmar hatch and a Stainless steel opening port in the house side. Light and ventilation in general is provided by 7 opening ports and 6 skylights plus the companionway.

Taking A Look At What A Cocaine Test Does

A cocaine test can happen when you get a new job or have to have one to continue employment. This is one drug that they look for when they take a sample from you, with urine being the most common way of collecting one to test.

They do not test for cocaine as such, but for benzoylecgonine. This is cocaine that has been metabolized in the system and the remains for which they look for to fail you in the test. It does not matter if it is cocaine or crack, this is what appears.

Cocaine drug testing can give you a positive, even if you have no done the substance for several days. This is because the concentrates in the urine can change throughout the day, and like a pregnancy test, can be higher in the first urine of the day. This is not always true, however, since the length of time you have used the substance can also come into play with the amount that you have.

Drinking a lot of water can help dilute the urine and cause the cocaine to appear in your system light enough to be able to pass the test. Be aware, that you may be called in for additional testing since some labs get suspicious of this activity. There are also kits that offer nutrition, diuretics and guides that you can use to lower the amount in your sample as well.

Most of the time, a cocaine test will show the during in the system for 10 days or more for an average user. Generally, it will be out of your system in about a month. Your results can vary, and it can be sooner or later. The best way to pass any of the testing is to not use illegal substances, but if you do, there are things that you can do to help pass them.

Overview

The new Imagine is something of a landmark yacht for Dubois Naval Architects.
She bears the name of one of our favourites, launched in early 1993. Both were built by Alloy Yachts in New Zealand; the first Imagine at 33.6m was our third design constructed by that yard and the new Imagine, somewhat larger at 44.2m, is the 21st!
A composite daggerboard, semi-balanced composite blade rudder and an Alloy Yachts custom helm feedback system enables superb performance and stability at speed.
The owner so loved the first Imagine that he wanted to emulate the appearance and character of the earlier yacht and to embody in the new yacht many of her attractive features. The owner’s racing passion and close association with the America’s Cup, Volvo and TP52 races has seen, with great success, racing technology transferred and blended into this classic superyacht.

Zefira was built for Italian owners who are wonderfully passionate and artistic. Previously owning an older Dubois-designed sloop, the challenge to us was to combine our extensive experience with a fresh look at style, while still embodying all the features which combine seaworthiness with performance. Como was launched in New Zealand in 2007 and commenced sea trials the same day. Built by Alloy Yachts, she measures 41m in length and has a displacement of 214 tonnes, making her the largest motoryacht built by the shipyard to date. A performance yacht, Como nonetheless epitomizes luxury and comfort.

Equipped with two caterpillar C30 1550 hp diesel engines she has a cruising speed of 16 knots and a sprint speed of 17.5 knots.

Finished in dark blue with a metallic silver superstructure, her smooth exterior lines are enhanced by a solid line of black windows across the main deck.

1. One of our more innovative recent moves was to design and fit a fuel and water tank that can be fully removable. The capacity is now 380 lt fresh water and a 380 lt diesel tank. The access and area around the tank has also improved.

2. We are now utilizing a 19 inch LCD display with DVD on a swivel bracket next to the nav station instead of the fixed screen. This gives the operator more versatility in terms of positioning the screen.

3. Rudder stocks have upgraded to 2 inch schedule 80 stainless steel

4. The helm seat has been redesigned, we have reduced the base bar that occasionally scuffed the back of your legs, and have brought the back rest further forward making the seat more comfortable.

5. The steering bar has been reinforced at the point loading position of the auto pilot bracket to insure that there is no shear.

6. We have added an additional 1100 quad axel mat on the join lines taking the layup to 4725g/sq meter to prevent hairline cracks. ( 1100g/sq meter over the designer specification)

7. The keels have been reinforced with an additional lay up, taking the lay up to over 9000g/sq meter. (some 3000g/sq meter over the designer specification)

8. The introduction of vinyl cladding on all the cabin bulkheads has softened the interior considerably.

9. After considerable design work we are now incorporating a galley storage box above the counter top over the port hull. This unit can house the microwave or other act as additional storage.

10. Saloon lights have now been placed on three individual switches allowing more versatile usage of the saloon lights.

11. Engine plumbing now includes exhaust goose necks, as well as siphon breaks and strainers. This will ensure longer life of the impeller as well as reduce risk of water back siphoning into the engine.

12. Hinged head boards with sound proofing have also been added allowing for easier access to the steering system.

The Alerion Express 20 is a tried and true Day Sailer that has been brought back by popular demand. All the Alerion essentials are present--classic topside, modern underbody, gratifying speed and single-handed ease. Note the fingertip control as the boat charges along on a beam reach in a brisk southwest breeze on Narragansett Bay. The special features are open cockpit, complete simplicity and a friendly price designed to introduce sailors to the Alerion Express Fleet.

This design is particularly apt for the new style of "Civilized Club Racing", introduced by several fleets of AE 28's. This is a simplified system we have developed for keeping competition alive without the complication of having to line up crew. There are only 4 basic rules, in addition to the standard considerations of starboard tack and buoy room. So you can race with your wife or your granddaughter or by yourself.

1. Just 2 sails, main and self-tacking jib-no genoas, no spinnakers.

2. Just Dacron sails, no expensive exotics allowed.

3. All crew to remain in the cockpit during racing-except for emergencies. This avoids the rail meat race that rewards heavy crew and means the boat is best raced by 1 or 2 persons whose weight is not a factor .

4. No protests. Protests are an automatic source of dispute and delay that interferes with the post race camaraderie that should be the first priority. So bag the protests and preserve the pleasure.

This system has been successfully proven with One Design AE 28 fleets on both the east and west coast. It enables clubs to attract more sailing participation on a more gentlemanly basis that directly rewards skill without a lot of shouting and sea lawyering. Amateur golf and tennis are conducted on the presumption of your competitor's honesty-why not sailing?

Description

Admiral 35 'Be Cool', planning hull #110 , designed by CNL Technical Department and Luca Dini design, is built of light aluminium alloy 5083. It is 35 meters in length and powered by two diesel engines MTU 12V 4000 M90, each of them reaching 2.775 hp, to a top speed of 30 knots.

The yacht was completed under the supervision of the American Bureau of Shipping, earning it the 'Maltese Cross A21 Yachting Service AMS' certification.

Interiors, well versed in the shipowner's personal taste, were designed by Studio Magazzini Associati in Rome, who took an unconventional approach in their interpretation: in fact architects have chosen clean lines incorporating materials usually found in architecture.

Titanium, lacquer and metal veneers melt with both modern and traditional furnishings and with particularly sophisticated remote controlling system all uniting in the creation of a unique and original whole whose spaces are thought out to enhance the concept of wellness.

The fly and the gym area are our best instance of such a philosophy. The fly is outfitted as a huge solarium while the gym, conceived in collaboration with Angelo Caroli, of the Caroli Health Club Network, is in the upper foredeck garage, where the jet-ski are usually located The roof is a carbon-steel canopy that can raise up to three meters, allowing open-air workouts and a new way of onboard fitness.

VIKING YACHTS 68' Enclosed Bridge Convertible 2009

Viking has been building enclosed bridge convertibles for over 11 years, delivering the first model, a 58 EB in the summer of 1995. From the initial launch, the design has grown more and more popular with cruising yachtsmen who wanted Viking’s well-documented performance with a climate-controlled helm. In essence, a Viking Enclosed Bridge Convertible is a fast, long range motoryacht with the speed, handling and sea keeping ability of an offshore proven tournament sportfisherman with great looks to match.

As the design has evolved over the years, Viking now offers enclosed bridges on the 74, 68, 64 and 56 Convertibles. And although the size of the enclosed bridge varies depending upon the model, each one shares a commonality of luxury and convenience features.

To maximize visibility, the helm is moved forward on centerline and each of three tinted windshield sections is fitted with a wiper and washer. The dash is wrapped in black ultra-leather to reduce glare and serves as the ideal location for electronic displays and the flush-mounted compass. Overhead, a bank of accessory switches controls various systems. Single lever controls supplied by the engine manufacturer and a vertical destroyer-type wheel with power assisted hydraulic steering deliver instant and effortless response. Beneath the dash there is considerable stowage for loose gear and other accessories. An adjustable Stidd helm chair provides plenty of comfort for long range excursions and on most models is flanked with upholstered companion seats, each with a sturdy footrest.

Abaft the helm is essentially a second salon with similar amenities found below. A plush J-shaped lounge with stowage underneath on a raised platform allows guests panoramic views through the forward, side and aft windows, which totally eliminates any sense of confinement. A cocktail table adds a nice, convenient touch. Opposite the lounge, the hand-finished teak cabinetry houses a refrigerator with space available for bottle stowage and a sink. For entertainment, a flat-screen television, stereo and CD player are standard.

The enclosed bridge is fully air conditioned and in reverse cycle mode, the system can supply heat for those chilly days at the beginning and end of the season. In fact, it is this feature of the enclosed bridge that many owners appreciate because it allows them to extend their boating season and enjoy more time on the water. On those in-between days, you can open the overhead hatch and the weatherproof exterior door to invite plenty of fresh air aboard.

Another useful benefit of the design is it provides for an interior staircase from the salon so that during inclement weather, there is no need to travel outside to reach the flybridge. (One exception is the 56 Enclosed Bridge, which presently is not offered with a spiral staircase.)

For docking ease, each enclosed bridge model is equipped with an outside aft docking station. The controls and wheel fit neatly into a fiberglass helm pod with room to add some electronics if desired. Opposite the outside helm, there is a molded fiberglass seat topped with a plump cushion for comfort and plenty of stowage below.

On enclosed bridge models, all of the flybridge railings, including the bridge ladders are powder-coated to blend in nicely with the surroundings. Even the quartz lights, which illuminate the cockpit, are ensconced in fiberglass pods for a totally finished look.

Viking also offers an option called the skybridge. This feature is a cozy open flybridge that sits atop the enclosed bridge roof. If it is extra height you are looking for aboard your next new Viking, it’s safe to safe the sky is the limit with this accessory.

Running a bowrider ashore for a picnic can be a scratchy affair for fibreglass boats, but not so for Stacer’s aluminium 539 Sportster, notes Rick Huckstepp

Stacer have just rolled out a revamped and compact aluminium 539 Sportster that competes well with imported fibreglass bowriders.

While the traditional colours for Stacer have been those in the range of blue, they have opted to go for more neutral colours such as creams and greys, and have made some modifications along the way.

The bowriding section on the Stacer 539 Sportster has a makeover with more scalloped seating and stowage boxes underneath the cushions. An optional infill can fit here to create a casting platform, turning this rig into a smart fishing machine, while in the cockpit Stacer have taken to the sidepocket modules of old and modified them, opening them up for more stowage space also.

This has been undertaken to maximise space without having to delve into the deck to create underfloor space, hence, keeping the overall price of the package to the minimum.

Subsequently, this boat does not come fitted with electronics such as depthsounders, but did have an optional boarding ladder on the port forequarter.The pins on the hinge of the ladder were unusually long and could do with a trim to reduce the risk of catching on clothing and skin.

As with all Stacer models, there is extensive use of rotomoulded inserts which are tough and sturdy, and on the Sportster one was fitted into the anchor well as a liner.

At various positions on the inside edge of the gunwales, slots will take a removable drinkholder frame.

ANODISED RAILS
Rather than the standard-finish handrails, those fitted to the Stacer are now anodised making for a smart, long-lasting look and finish.

The helm and passenger seats are fronted with rotomoulded modules, and that for the passenger has the recesses for the placement of a radio/CD player with a couple of stowage trays and a lidded compartment.

The helm module was filled with instrumentation, save for a small tray which could have a small-screen sounder or GPS gimbal mounted. If you were looking for more than one electronic cabinet, the tray top of the passenger module is within easy reach and one unit might be installed there.

Earlier models of this type of boat from Stacer have had elastic net retainers under the consoles behind which lifejackets may be secured. This concept has been done away with in favour of stowage of safety gear under the bowrider seats.

The wraparound Perspex screen is strengthened with a handrail that terminates along with the edge of the screen at the companionway leading to the bowriding section.

The windscreen opens and folds back to one side, and is retained with an elastic cord while a small carpeted door also closes to prevent a lot of draught coming into the cockpit when underway.

IN THE SEAT
While this boat is not fitted with a skipole it does have a standard-fit tow ring centrally located on the stern. Both swivel seats have rocking backrests for lounging around or observing the skiers.

Over the stern, a stylish swim-out platform overhangs the Alpha leg. Non-slip surfaces are adhered to the top of the platform and grabrails run over each aft corner.

The rear lounge section has a seat rebated into each corner, with the central section being the fore end of the engine box.

The topside full gunwale-to-gunwale width cushioning makes a nice sun lounge. This topside is gas strut assisted and when opened, reveals the engine box which has had some heavy soundproofing.

POWER FROM THE INSIDE
The lid removes completely to access the MerCruiser 3lt TKS engine. This is a 135hp petrol carburetted engine and is way above the horsepower rating that would be allowed for this model boat fitted with an outboard engine.

All fluid bottles are located within easy reach at the front of the block, and belts and pulleys are also easily accessible.

Outside of the engine box in the port aft corner is located the crank battery and in the opposite side is the power steering pump for the Alpha leg installed in another battery box. There is ample stowage space in these corner compartments as well as in seat base boxes under the lower lounge seat.

Flexible blower tubes pump fumes out of a vent in the outside edge of the transom bulkhead.

Stacer have done a good job of soundproofing the engine compartment. The four-cylinder engine hummed away nicely and provided plenty of holeshot, although we were only lifting one person onto the plane.

The engine provided plenty of torque throughout its rev range and with WOT of 5000rpm we registered a speed of 74kmh on the water-pressure activated speedometer.

The power steering on the Alpha leg worked a treat and the only issue we could find with it was in the manual side of the system. For those not in the know, the helm is manual and that drives the pump which is hydraulic. An amount of slack in the helm made for a small gap where no instant control was experienced when moving the helm from left to right. Though not a safety issue, it feels a little strange but is easily remedied.

All up, the 539 Sportster is a nice rig from Stacer with plenty of room for window dressing. You can be assured of more peace of mind with this rig parked on a gravel beach in everyone else’s boat wash while the picnicking is underway, than having the gelcoat ground off the bottom of a fibreglass hull in the same situation.

With a new hull (redesigned in collaboration with Sparkman & Stephens), twin tunnels in the hull, bigger props and state-of-the-art C-9 ACERT engines, the GB47CL reaches top speeds of more than 20 knots. GRAND BANKS YACHT 55 EASTBAY SX

The Grand Banks 55 Eastbay SX is a fantastic new model! She has a huge cockpit, enormous salon and many other innovative features. Her profile is simply out of this world!

We worked with Grand Banks to make some upgrades to the original plans on the GB55SX, to include some additional features and benefits that we thought were extremely important. These revisions have been implemented in Hull #03.

One of the major improvements from the older Eastbay Series models is the salon deck area, which has been greatly enhanced and enlarged in this new design. The forward windshield is nearly 3-feet farther forward and, besides increasing the space, the visibility is vastly improved. The standard helm has been completely redesigned, so that you can comfortably sit at the standard STIDD seat that will adjust all the way up to the wheel itself, or slide it back and stand to operate the yacht.

The Salon features a barrel chair to starboard aft and to port is a huge U-shaped settee, which easily seats 6 adults. Forward of the U-settee, and to port, is a double STIDD seat, opposite the helmseat. The entertainment center is opposite the settee with bottle storage and icemaker, and the TV is on a swivel mount, so it can be angled around the salon. The helm station features a STIDD seat that will adjust all the way up to the wheel itself, or slide it back and stand to operate the yacht.

Going below, on the port-side is the galley and, just at the end of the galley on the starboard-side is the entrance into the private owners’ stateroom featuring a walkaround island bed and an ensuite head with shower. The guest stateroom is forward featuring an additional island berth and ensuite head. Both staterooms have an enormous supply of drawers and cabinets for storage, as well as hanging locker space. We’ve upgraded the countertops in both heads to granite.

We also knew there would be a need for a full-sized washer/dryer in this size yacht, not just a Combomatic. So, after much thought and discussion with the factory, we now have the full-sized washer/dryer. The freezer location was part of the dilemma, because there is no place in the galley or salon to install it. We opted for the lazarette area, which is a huge area and can accommodate this without a problem. We’ve added a fiberglass comfortable seat to the cockpit with storage below, as well.

Hull #03 is equipped with the standard 853hp Caterpillar C-15 engines with top speeds of 30 knots and a cruising speed in the mid-20’s. The helm deck itself is much taller and larger than the Eastbay 49, like it is on the new 45SX, which allows the windows in the salon to be larger for better visibility. It also allows for better engine room access.

This new GB55SX is one of the most exciting yachts that Grand Banks has ever built!
